This is a replica of the implant device from the series Silo. This listing is for the blood stained, weathered version.
We have updated the process for making this piece to include a stainless steel rod that runs through the center of the entire prop. This adds enough weight to the piece to make it feel like real metal in the hand.
The first several photos document the process that goes into making each of the replicas that we make. We start with a standard 3D print that we modeled in our shop, followed by primer paint and a high gloss black paint to make the metallic paint pop. Once the black is cured we insert a stainless steel rod into the center of the prop to add weight and provide pins to line everything up. We use a strong, 30 min. epoxy on all of our props where we need to hold things together. Once the epoxy is cured we begin dry brushing metallic paints. We hit the high spots on the prop leaving the recesses black. Last step is a clear coat formulated to keep the metallic paints looking metal. We allow overnights in between steps to make sure things are dry and cured. Each prop takes 5-6 days to make.
